Cluster Description:
Students in this FIG earn some GUR requirements while examining the connections among environment, politics, economics, and identity. We explore questions such as: How are environmental impacts related to racial and other identity experiences? How can maps help us understand patterns of environmental inequality? Are environmental and economic inequality related?

Course Descriptions for Environmental Justice

  • Environmental Studies 115, Hope, Agency, Climate, (Kate Darby) 3cr, SSC, CRN: 44072
    This course flips the climate change narrative by focusing on hope and agency. Students will learn how communities around the world are addressing climate change while also supporting justice and well-being. Students will develop their own case study narratives of hope. The course also provides space for students to process and reflect on eco-grief, and to make a personal climate change action plan.
  • Political Science 250, American Political System, (Melanie Whitley) 5cr, SSC, CRN: 41676
    Consideration of the system and process of American politics and government with primary focus on the national level.
  • Seminar 101, Perspectives on Learning, (Zander Albertson) 2cr, CRN: 41008
    An introductory seminar offering an exploration of academic content and essential questions about the structure of patterns. How can patterns be discovered, described symbolically, and put to use. Includes embedded instruction in academic skills and use of campus resources pertinent to exploration of the FIG cluster theme. Concludes with an academic presentation.
